TRASHING YOUR DRESS, WHAT THA?…

Some of you reading this might not know what a trash the dress is and some of you do, for those that don’t the “traditional” trash the dress is where you basically wear your dress in a location that is out of place, such as a beach or junkyard or where ever you wouldn’t normally wear it.

We like to take this concept to another level and add a little sexiness to the situation, thus the indyBridal Extreme was born. While nudity isnt shown , the content is very subjective and taboo for most. There’s a very tiny niche of brides that actually embrace this concept and love the idea of trashing the dress while making is super hot.

Our last indyBridal extreme took us to an abandoned ghost town  in the city of Nelson ,  i picked this location for the downed aircraft on the property , we rented the helmet at a local supply store in Vegas and the bride provided the flight suit.

With all of our trash the dress videos we like to break them down into three section, The 1st is the opening and almost usually the bride isnt wearing her dress yet, In this case we have a girl that emerges for a wrecked plane, gains her senses and begins to wonder the area.

The second scene she find herself in an abandoned town where she finds a dress locked away in a trunk . She then proceeds to put the dress on drink some Jack and dances with herself in the mirror. Afterwards she wonders in the desert and where she trashes it with the first element “sand and wind”

The third part is what we like to call the shocker , with most trash the dresses the shocker would have been just being out in the desert in a ghost town but we always must take it further, while i cant give anything away, the third element is something we have never done before and is unspeakable. These videos defiantly aren’t your grandmothers wedding videos but thats what feeds us. I cant think of any other videographer that has taken videos to the level like this and it has been a big risk.

My first TTD was super sexy and just involved water cause i wasn’t sure how brides would see it. Would it hurt my business? Could i be successful as being “the bad boy” of wedding videography? So basically i just went for it, throwing all caution to the wind and came out alright. The question i get asked the most is “What does your wife think about you shooting this?” Well she says she doesn’t mind , some times she goes with me , as in the case of the Ghost Town vid. I always encourage the bride to bring a friend just so they can feel more comfortable. I approach the situation professionally although i don’t claim to be a professional just an artist. Generally the bride needs to be comfortable in her skin and just embrace that. We almost always have the song were gonna use  playing so that the bride can get and idea of her movement speeds and overall feel. Alcohol is optional, lol.

Though i know this sort of thing isn’t for everyone, I would say 92% of brides wouldn’t even think about it, but in most cases the dress comes clean if you do want to keep it. So if you are in that 8% and love to break the rules this is the ultimate video you can make.

Trashing your dress. Some say why? I say why not? You’ve made a commitment to your husband. He’s your one and only true love, right?

Then you’ll never need the dress again. And no, your daughter wont want to wear it in twenty to thirty years. So basically you have two options

    1. Suffocate it in plastic and throw it in a closet!

    2. Show your man how committed you are by trashing the dress and get an unbelievable sexy video while doing it. To view the teaser trailer to this indyBridal extreme click here.

Dustin, This clip is amazing! You, your wife and your team were so awesome on Neelie Michelle Bradley-Ylagan and Jason Ylagan's big day. Neelie said you were good….I can't wait to see the rest because not only were you guys awesome, your passion for your art comes through and reflects even in this trailor. Waiting with anticipation… :-)

I sold my dress on ebay, just so my mom could make some of her $ back~ but didn't even know "trash the dress" existed back then. Wish I had it back now to trash it 7 years later~ I say do what you love and if you can take it to the bank also… even better! Good job Dustin in every piece of work that you do. You have a God given talent~ so creative… Hope my boys take after the Siniard "work drive". You guys put your mind to something and do it~ succeeding in everything you try.

TTD sessions are so much fun! I wish more of my wedding clients were willing to do this. You guys take TTD to the next level! I love how there is a story behind it.

The whole idea is to do something, anything, with what is the pinnacle of the wedding ceremony, that would find itself in a closet for 40 years before being seen again. The concept that you're wasting money by doing a TTD is ridiculous; it becomes a priceless work of art that lasts forever.
It's OK to have your own opinion about all this stuff, just like it's OK for a client to want to TTD. What you have to think about is this is Dustin's business and he's creating art. Art exists even if you don't agree with it.

I for one am very proud of Dustin! Hey Cuz… Awesome job and I stand behind this 110%. When and IF I ever tie the knot…just know that I will be “trashing my dress”. It is an opportunity to capture an inner self that you (the bride) may not know is lurking inside! Just remember Cuz… Opinions are like assholes and everybody has one. You just keep doing what you are doing… and know that it is respectful, tasteful, and very artistic and creative work. :) xoxoxo

Good debate here….remeber Kiesha, Dustin didn't invent 'trash the dress'. Clients come to him wanting to do these sessions. Everyone may want something different out of their wedding (and their dress). I agree selling the dress is an option, but creating a one of a kind piece of art (to me) is an even better option. My dress is still hanging in my closet (8 years later), and it no longer fits me :( and I don't think Phoenix would ever wear it.

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:58 //

some money back on it before getting it dirty on purpose. And, of course, this is all just my opinion, but it is not an uncommon opinion. I mostly just wanted to let the original writer know that there are more than two options as far as what happens to a wedding dress after the ceremony.

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:52 //

Neelie, you might not want to wear somebody else's dress, but other people don't have a problem doing just that. Like I said, you can do whatever you want with your property. All I'm saying is that as someone who doesn't have a lot of money, this comes off as a way to brag about how much money one has. "I can afford a traditional wedding dress, for starters and I can afford to either flat-out ruin it for photos, or pay to have salt water/mud/grease stains removed afterwards." As I mentioned, I paid $400 for mine, which is a drop in the bucket, but I would rather sell it for $100 on Craigslist and try to make so

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:48 //

Dustin, I don't believe I said anything about feeding children. I did not mention donating, I mentioned selling. Making money! Recouping costs!

  • Dustin Blake Siniard wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:44 //

I agree with Jeff, you went way to deep on that one. Its all about stepping outside the box. Its art…you watch movies where they have million dollar explosions and effects but don't complain on their blogs saying they shoulda used that money to feed the children. I Love indyBridal Extremes and the community does too!

  • Neelie Michelle Bradley-Ylagan wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:29 //

There are some that would NEVER sell their dress simply for the fact that they wouldnt want anyone else to wear it. I would not want to wear a dress/ring that someone else wore. (b/c some even buy used rings) I feel that my dress was my style, my look, and a individual representation of ME and pretty unique. There are wedding dresses at all price points. The comment, an "eff you to poor people"——–Laughable!!!!

  • Neelie Michelle Bradley-Ylagan wrote on July 7, 2011 at 3:22 //

Dustin, the arrangement of video reel capturing my TTD is the ULTIMATE celebration of "my day" and "the most beautiful article of clothing I will ever own". Keep pushing the envelope and going the distance to be extreme. There is a growing body of people that really love the art/fashion inspired work that you do. Jason loves it!

No plastic bag in my closet!

  • Jeff Laird wrote on July 7, 2011 at 2:43 //

Sorry lady, but I think you're taking thinks way out of perspective.

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 2:32 //

Also, I sort of take offense to the idea that this is showing commitment to your husband. If my husband had a little two-seater, $75,000 sports car, I wouldn't expect him to trash it if we had a baby and needed a bigger car. But he's sticking with me and the kid, right? So he obviously doesn't NEED it, right? Goddamn, it would be so sexy to have photos of him taking a sledgehammer to the headlights! We can always pay another $5K to get the dings out and then sell it!

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 2:23 //

Sorry, got cut off. I totally understand this from a business perspective; it is another opportunity to make money (and create art) as a photographer. All I'm saying is, I paid $400 for my dress, which a lot of people would consider pocket change for a wedding dress, and there's no way in hell I would trash it before selling it.

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 2:21 //

You can put your dress up on eBay or Craigslist to sell. Lots of people do it. I didn't have thousands of dollars for my wedding dress and looked into buying a used one online. I wouldn't have paid to trash it, I would have paid to wear it. To my wedding. Of course, you can do whatever you want with your own property, it just seems really sad that women would spend so much money on what is probably the prettiest item of clothing they will ever own and then turn around and get it filthy, even if it might come clean. I totally understand it fro

  • Jonathan Nye wrote on July 7, 2011 at 2:16 //

Good stuff man. Pushing the limits for sure! Keep it up.

  • Jeff Laird wrote on July 7, 2011 at 1:55 //

And like Dustin said in the text, it comes clean. If they really need a wedding dress, they can still purchase it second hand or take it for free as a donation.

  • Dustin Blake Siniard wrote on July 7, 2011 at 1:44 //

sell the dress to who? Poor people are not gonna pay to trash the dress. Its not about that at all , its about creating art that hasnt been touched on before and being different. Raising the bar…..like Elvis

  • Kiesha Jenkins-Duffy wrote on July 7, 2011 at 1:15 //

    A) that guy neglects option three, which is to sell the dress.
    B) I find that 'trashing' a wedding dress is the ULTIMATE 'eff you' to poor people.

  • Shane Hintz wrote on July 6, 2011 at 5:08 //

If I was a woman, you would for sure be the one that would get to capture my trash the dress, and for goodness sake, why the hell would you not want to do something fun in the dress ? If the dress comes up clean, and from the looks of it, your not actually even trashing it at all, I say, go for it !!!

And with scenese like that, you’d feel like a movie star, and they are just the photos ???

I am going to go look at the video, where is is ?

    Shane.
